SHELBY YEH

President

Shelby Yeh, a freshman in college, aspires to amplify underrepresented individuals with her interest in mathematics and science. Traveling, reading, playing her instruments, and spending time with her family and friends has always been some of her favorite activities to do in her free time. By expanding her interest with STEMpathize, she aims to lift up other individuals in STEM fields and allow them to share her passion for the subjects!

SERENA KOOPMANS

Creative Director

Serena Koopmans is a junior at Burlingame High School, where she demonstrates her passion for STEM through her leadership roles on the robotics team and in Artificial Intelligence Club. She enjoys surfing, exploring new places, and thrifting in her free time. She loves spreading STEM education to younger students!

MIMI LIU

Co-Public Relations Director

Mimi Liu is currently a junior student at Oakland High School. She loves to play basketball, hangout with friends, and play video games. She’s very interested in computer science, specifically software engineering. Her goal at STEMpathize is to help students get exposed to different opportunities in the STEM field by updating and designing the website.

KATHLEEN SHANG

Co-Public Relations Director

Kathleen Shang is a senior at Northgate High School who wants to promote more STEM opportunities to others. She has an interest in cognitive science currently and wants to study brains, but also enjoys creative writing and binge watching her favorite TV shows. She hopes to create a positive impact in the community and introduce more people to STEM!

ARPITA SHANBHAG

Co-Programs Director

Currently a sophomore at Emerald High School, Arpita Shanbhag is passionate about education and has always strived to spread knowledge to everyone she can - that’s why she joined STEMpathize due to her love for science, especially astronomy, as well as teaching. She is a dedicated volunteer at many organizations, a baker, and a dancer at heart, loving everything she does.

ALEX TERNATE

Co-Programs Director

Alex Ternate is a senior at Clayton Valley Charter High School who is passionate in pursuing biology, chemistry, and mathematics to contribute and innovate medicine through research and laboratory work with the end goal of becoming a pediatric oncologist! In his free time, he loves to play piano, cook, and read up on his favorite series week to week.  Alex loves to teach individuals all about the sciences and math so they can articulate their interests in STEM related subjects while also learning more about them himself.

Outreach Director

Vannysa Saechao is a senior at Oakland High School who has an enthusiastic love for food and reading. She values self-improvement and is constantly striving to learn. She hopes to hone her skills, connect with others and empower youth through STEMpathize.

SIENNA WONG

Blog Director

Sienna Wong is a sophomore at Monte Vista High School, with the hope of marrying her passion for writing and deep fascination of science as a blog writer for STEMpathize. She is a dedicated cross country and track runner, and has cultivated a deep love for writing and reading throughout her life. She is often found swimming, running, baking, or disappearing into her room after a particularly book-abundant trip to the library. She hopes to connect with students creatively, on a more personal level through writing during her time with STEMpathize.

ADAM ANDERSON

STEMpathize Adult Supervisor

Adam Anderson is a Math and Product Development teacher at Los Altos High School. He currently teaches AP Statistics, Design and Prototyping, and  Design and Fabrication, a larger scale product development class. He has previously taught AP Calculus and Geometry at Los Altos High School. Adam has a Masters degree in Environmental Science and product development experience from his years in the toy industry. He has also had experience in clerical support for a legal office, retail management, toy invention and innovation, quality control/ quality assurance, and environmental field research before returning to his first academic love and becoming a Math teacher.
