ages 9-12: sound

Lesson Objective: Students will understand how sound is produced and how it travels through different mediums.

Materials: pencils, a long piece of string (about 2 ft.), 2 metal spoons of different sizes, printed handouts (1 per partner group), 10 drinking glasses, water, pencils, 8 drinking straws per person, scissors, tape, rulers, markers, jam lids/small paper plates (1 per student), jumbo craft sticks (1 per student), rubber bands of different sizes (4 per student)
