ages 9-12: ocean

Lesson Objective: Students will learn about the layers of the ocean and why they exist. In addition, they will learn about the importance of coral reefs in sustaining life.

Materials: empty plastic water bottles (1 per group), blue and black food coloring, measuring cups (⅓ cup), corn syrup, dish soap, rubbing alcohol, water, oil, flashlight/phone light, pipe cleaners, blue construction paper, Elmer's glue

Optional: funnel made of parchment paper + tape + scissors, wire cutters
