november programs

We are hosting two programs in November 2021: Intro to Biochemistry for grades 3-4 and Mathematical Graphing for 5-6.

 

Each workshop consists of lessons and hands-on activities (i.e. science experiments) for students to participate in. As a result, students are required to provide their own materials that will be used during the workshops.

 

Below is more information about each program. You may find the required materials for each workshop below as well.

Intro to Biochemistry
Grades 3-4
Saturdays, 11-12 PM PST/1-2 PM CST/2-3 PM EST
The DEADLINE to register for the November Workshops is October 31st, 2021. Expect to hear a reply from us confirming that your student has registered within a week of submission.

1. Immunology and Vaccines

November 6th

Materials: bowl of water, dish soap, pepper or glitter, sink, flour

2. Structure/ Properties of DNA 

November 13th

Materials: water, oil, small cups, medicine dropper, red vines candy, toothpicks, gummy drops in assorted colors

3. Viruses (Transmission and Prevention)

November 20th

Materials: 1 sheet of aluminum foil, cracked black pepper, butter (a few small chunks),1 bowl, warm water (to fill the bowl),1 paper towel,1 spoon, double-sided tape,10 drops of liquid soap

4. In and Out of Cells

November 27th

Materials: 3 pipe cleaners of different colors,1 regular-sized drinking straw,1 thick, medium-size rubber band, approximately 50 q-tips cotton swabs, scissors, 1 marble, cup of water, food coloring (any color of your choice, only 1 is needed but more is optional)

Mathematical Graphing
Grades 5-6
Saturdays, 11-12 PM PST/1-2 PM CST/2-3 PM EST

Materials: pencil,1 sheet of graph paper, ruler 

2. Basics of Plotting Points

November 13th

Materials: graphing paper, pencil, folder (to cover up paper), red pens

3. Points on the Coordinate Plane

November 20th

Materials: computer, internet, pencil, this worksheet

4. Intro to the Slope Formula

November 27th

Materials: 1 sheet of paper (preferably graph paper), different colors of pens or colored pencils (easy visualization of the different variables), ruler or any type of a straight edge,1 sheet of graph paper, 3 or more different colored colored pencils/pens, ruler
