may programs

We are hosting two programs in May 2022: Intro to Biology for grades 3-4 and Applied Geometry for 5-6.

 

Each workshop consists of lessons and hands-on activities (i.e. science experiments) for students to participate in. As a result, students are required to provide their own materials that will be used during the workshops.

 

Below is more information about each program. You may find the required materials for each workshop below as well.

Intro to Biology
Grades 3-4
Saturdays, 11-12 PM PST/1-2 PM CST/2-3 PM EST
The DEADLINE to register for the May Workshops is April 30th, 2022. Expect to hear a reply from us confirming that your student has registered within a week of submission.

1. Creating Creatures

May 7th

Materials: Large groups (7-10 people/group), pencil, paper, Crayons (or another coloring tool, optional but recommended)

2. Genetics 

May 14th

Materials: King size pack of M&Ms or Skittles, two paper bags, marker, 1 sheet of paper, pencil, one strawberry, rubbing alcohol (1 tsp), dish soap (2 tsp), water (6 T), salt (¼ tsp), sealable plastic bag, small plate, two small containers or glasses (about ¼ - ½ cup), medium container or glass (exact size unimportant), strainer, skewer or toothpick or chopstick or tweezers, measuring spoons

3. Intro to Evolution 2: How Species Change

Materials: Computer with internet access, PhET simulation, paper, writing utensil, Fossil Puzzle game

Applied Geometry
Grades 5-6

1. Connecting the Water Cycle and Climate Change

October 9th

Materials: pencil, paper, 1 die, large aluminum pan or light baking dish, newspaper pages or scratch paper, roll of masking tape, garbage bag, pair of scissors, spray bottle, food coloring, water, paper towels

2. Sun and Moon Phenomena

October 16th

Materials: large clear plastic cups, black paper and yellow paper, black marker, glue, tape, ruler, scissors, empty cereal box, pencil​, tin foil​, white paper, a nail or needle

3. The Everyday Thunderstorms

October 23rd

Materials: 1 balloon or 1 wool hat, any type of bag
