We are hosting two programs in August 2021: Food Science for grades 3-4 and Renewable Energy for 5-6.
Each workshop consists of lessons and hands-on activities (i.e. science experiments) for students to participate in. As a result, students are required to provide their own materials that will be used during the workshops.
Below is more information about each program. You may find the required materials for each workshop below as well.
Food Science
Grades 3-4
Saturdays, 11-12 PM PST/1-2 PM CST/2-3 PM EST
The DEADLINE to register for the July Workshops is July 31st, 2021. Expect to hear a reply from us confirming that your student has registered within a week of submission.

1. Emulsion Explosion
August 7th
Materials: mason jar or other airtight container, heavy cream, strainer, salt, olive oil, vinegar, dijon mustard, honey, tomato paste, garlic paste
2. DNA Detectives
August 14th
Materials: twirlers, cylindrical candies, toothpicks, small containers, water, isopropyl alcohol, strawberry, zip-lock bag, salt, dish soap
3. Refraction
August 21st
Materials: Swedish
fish, clear container, water, wooden skewer, petri dishes, red jello, blue jello, clear gelatin, protractor
4. Food Chemistry
August 28th
Materials: measuring spoons and cups, sugar, half-and-half, vanilla extract, salt, ice cubes, zip-lock bags, towel, timer, glass of water, red cabbage, lemon, vinegar, soap, baking soda

Grades 5-6

Materials: plastic bottle, compost, leaves, paper, soil, water, tape, scissors, marker, bowl, measuring cup, spoon, lightweight board, paper straws, cake pop sticks, cardstock, popsicle stick, wooden wheels, stickers
3. Solar, Hydro, and Wind Power
August 21st
Materials: scissors, plastic soda bottle, corks, wooden skewer, sewing thread, washer bolt, duct tape, paper clips, disposable bowl, pizza box, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, glue stick, scotch tape, box cutter
4. Consequences and Alternatives of Renewable Energy
